Full Body Acupunctureat Crossings HealingworksFor over 3000 years, one third of the world’s population has effectively used acupuncture to maintain and restore health. Today, the use of acupuncture is spreading as a consequence of a rapidly expanding patient population and affirmative research results published in western medical journals. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have endorsed the use of acupuncture for a variety of conditions including asthma, joint pain, fibromyalgia, headache, gynecological disorders, and low back pain. Acupuncture has become popular among patients leery of side effects resulting from the use of prescription medications and surgery. Acupuncture addresses imbalance within the microcosm of a human being through the assessment and treatment of Qi, or vital energy. Qi follows patterns of generation and distribution universal to all human beings. These patterns are governed by the same natural laws evidenced through the ecology of our external world; water nurtures wood, wood fuels fire, the products of fire enrich soil and so on. These same basic patterns of generation are continually sustaining us. When these natural laws are disrupted, discomfort or disease manifest. Acupuncture restores these vital patterns. Acupuncture points are locations along pathways called meridians, where Qi pools on the surface. Super fine needles (about the width of two human hairs) and a warming herb called moxa applied topically are used to effect change at these locations. When our Qi is abundant and flowing smoothly, our possibilities for healing are maximized we sleep well, awaken restored, move through our day and our emotions without chronic pain or discomfort and enjoy richer, more harmonious relationships. Acupuncture complements Western medicine and be used for a wide range of conditions, including: • chronic pain • conditions that don’t respond to other treatment • conditions for which few treatments exist • symptoms worsened by stress, such as migraines or asthma • coping with side effects from other treatments • behavioral, emotional or adjustment issues Recent, acute injuries or complaints are often resolved in a few treatments. Longer-term, chronic concerns may take longer perhaps one month of treatment for every year you have experienced your concern. After a presenting complaint is resolved, many choose to come for treatment once a season for acupuncture’s health maintenance and life enhancement qualities. Acupuncture patients report lower medical costs overall they don’t get sick as often, make more effective use of their physicians, need fewer prescription drugs, have less need for surgery, feel little or no pain, and have the stamina to meet the challenges life presents.
